National Fitness Month with TRX

Training Tips

May is National Fitness Month and the question that begs to be asked is, “Why dedicate an entire month to fitness?” I mean, aren’t there more important things to think about? Like global economy, environmental crisis and health care?

The truth of the matter is that fitness has the capability to affect people on perhaps a more fundamental level than any of these other vital issues. In short -- it has the ability to make just about everything better. Stress levels decrease, mood improves and energy levels elevate. We enjoy better sleep, we are more productive, have more mental acuity and we just plain look and feel better.

Another reason is that as a planet, we are putting forth less and less of a commitment to the physical side of life. In the U.S. alone, less than 2% of the population is using their gym membership once or more per week. That’s the equivalent of the population of South Dakota exercising, while the rest of the nation sits in their recliners. Moreover, childhood obesity has tripled in the past 30 years, 8 out of 10 Americans are overweight and type 2 diabetes has increased by 75% over the past 20 years. It’s clear that fitness is something we need to regain focus on.

So what does it mean to TRX?

It means May is the time to get up and pursue our passions, to get out and do what we love to do with a fervor. It means that it’s time to make good on self promises, like “This is the year I’m going to get into shape, look good in my bikini, run a faster 5k or hike Mount Whitney.”

It’s the time to truly be the physical role model that we want to be to our family, our friends and our colleagues. It’s the month we step things up to the next level -- regardless of what level we’re at now. We’ll go the extra mile, squeeze in another workout or find another level of effort.

May is the time to leave the month a little fitter than when we entered it; to reach for a goal and to challenge ourselves. This month we’ll try something new: A new program, a new activity, a new exercise or a new modality. We will work hard at it and watch our results.

But beyond what we might do personally, National Fitness Month is also the time to reach out to others by inspiring our friends to join us, and mentoring those who need it.

So this month, our challenge is three-fold:

  •     Train anywhere and everywhere.
  •     Lay a challenge in front of ourselves and strive to achieve it.
  •     Inspire others.

Ultimately, it is a month to celebrate our ability to engage in life physically, to celebrate our health, wellness and longevity.

It is our greatest hope that you will join us!
