In May We Remember

OUR DIGI CAMO SUSPENSION TRAINER™ IS MADE IN HONOR OF VETERANS EVERYWHERE

In May We Remember

IN MAY WE REMEMBER THOSE WHO’VE SERVED OUR COUNTRY: SAY THEIR NAME. SHARE THEIR STORIES

Memorial Day is a time for Americans to reconnect with our history and core values by honoring all the strong, brave, and courageous men and women who enlisted in our military and served our country. With TRX being home to many a veteran—including our founder Randy Hetrick’s roots in the NAVY Seals—the month of May holds a very special place in our hearts. To us, every day is Memorial Day, and our goal is to never forget, to reflect on and remember our brave American soldiers, friends, and family members who served in pursuit of the ideals we cherish. To those brave and missed souls we say thank you—thank you for making the ultimate sacrifice to uphold what our nation holds dear.

In their memory, we've partnered with the Special Operations Warrior Foundation this Memorial Day to give back 10% of proceeds from sales to empower families and wounded Special Operations Warriors. Anything purchased from 5/29 - 6/1 will be a part of that donation.

As another tribute, we’re also putting our Limited Edition Digi Camo Collection back in the spotlight—it’s back for a short time only, so grab what you love and start training.

THE STORY BEHIND THE PRINT

TRX was born in the Navy SEALS, which is why we have an ongoing partnership with Boulder Crest Foundation to support service members in moving toward new beginnings. We show up for those who’ve bravely showed up for our country, which is why beyond our connection with this amazing foundation, we designed this one-of-a-kind Digi Camo print in remembrance of any and all service members, both veteran and active duty. Every rep on your Digi Camo Straps is a rep in honor of those in service.

WE’VE BEEN ACTIVE WITH ACTIVE DUTY FROM THE START

Our Founder, Randy Hetrick, spent 14 years leading Navy commandos around the globe. His operational career culminated as a Squadron Commander of the SEAL's elite special missions unit. While a SEAL, he picked up another useful skill: sewing. Early in his SEAL career, Hetrick used his proficiency in sewing to modify his gear and fix a nagging problem for the SEAL teams: how to stay mission fit without a gym.

“We were increasingly finding ourselves squirreled away in warehouses and safe houses where the only thing you could do was a very traditional and narrow range of bodyweight exercises like pushups, situps, squat jumps and burpees. The genesis of TRX was to train climbing muscles that we needed to use in underway ship boarding.”

To remedy this challenge, Hetrick built the first TRX using parachute webbing and an old karate belt and discovered it was a versatile tool capable of far more than just climbing conditioning.

“It’s multiplanar—you’re unsupported, not locked into any one particular plane of movement. It’s user-based—the user’s bodyweight provides resistance, and it allows for variation of resistance from none of your bodyweight to all of your bodyweight.”

After leaving the service, Hetrick attended Stanford's Graduate School of Business to earn an MBA. Between classes, he trained, continued to study jiu-jitsu, and continued to refine the TRX. Ultimately, Hetrick experimented with more than 30 iterations of the TRX design before arriving at the final design. All the while, he drew on the training experiences of the SEAL teams, martial artists, elite athletes and his own TRX workouts to create more functional movements for the TRX. In 2004, Hetrick launched what we today know as TRX Suspension Training®.

Today, TRX has grown to be highly respected in the fitness world beyond military usage, but we’ve spent countless hours and dedication furthering our involvement with those in combat. Many of our staff at TRX HQ have been on active duty at one point in their lives, and that commitment to our country is ongoing with the recent development of TEAM RWB and our TRX ELITE division. Rob Lively, President of TRX Elite and US Army Veteran spearheads these efforts as someone who deeply understands the meaning behind Memorial Day.

“I once asked the wife of a friend of mine, who had recently been killed in combat, what she would have us do on Memorial Day.  She smiled with a tear in her eye and said, ‘It’s very simple Rob, just say their names, raise a glass, tell their stories all so we never forget them.’  So that is what I do many times a year—but always on Memorial Day.”
