MOVES OF THE WEEK: BACK TO WHERE IT ALL BEGAN

We couldn’t think of a better way to honor Veterans Day than to get moving with our TRX Founder, Randy Hetrick. As a veteran, himself, Randy is throwing it back to his Navy SEALS days when he ingeniously created the first-ever Suspension Trainer™ prototype. Check out the first-ever moves he did—Power Pull, Alternating Pistol Squat.

THE MOVES

MOVE 1: Power Pull

Strap setup: Mid Length 

Your setup: Stand facing anchor point. Hands chest height, arms extended, body leaning back. 

What it does: Works rotational strength, upper and lower body.

How it works:

  • Hold handle with left hand, reach right hand all the way back, rotating through hips and core until you’re almost in a T position.
  • Drive through hips, glutes and core, rotate back up, reach your right hand as high up on the strap as you can while rowing with your left arm to help boost you up.
  • Lower back down and repeat for all reps, then switch to the other side. 

Pro tip: Challenge yourself by aiming to “almost” touch the ground with each rep.

MOVE 2: Alternating Pistol Squat

Strap setup: Mid Length 

Your setup: Stand facing anchor point. Hands chest height.

What it does: Works single-leg balance, stability, and strength.

How it works: 

  • Lift left leg off ground. Push glutes back and down into a single-leg squat on the right leg. 
  • Go as low as you’re able then drive through right foot and leg. Use arms to assist!
  • Repeat on other side, alternating legs with each rep. 

Pro tip: Lower down with steady control so you don’t bounce at the bottom. Chest and head stay up the whole time. Want more of a challenge? Use the arms less and less until they’re just there for balance.
