Tackle a Tough Mudder with TRX

A team of 24 employees from TRX corporate HQ recently conquered the NorCal Tough Mudder event at Lake Tahoe, a challenging course at 8,000 ft. of elevation that featured 11 miles of mountainous terrain and 20 obstacles including ice cold water, electric shock ‘therapy’ and of course, trenches upon trenches of mud.

Leading up to their quest, team members turned to TRX Training to prep them to scale walls, scramble across monkey bars and even get up and over a halfpipe -- appropriately named Everest -- come race day.

Events like Tough Mudder, along with Warrior Dash and Spartan Race test total-body strength, stamina and mental toughness.Try adding this total-body TRX workout to your training program  and remember, all of these exercises are scalable to adapt to any fitness level. As for the 10,000 volts of electricity, you’re on your own.

TRX Pull-ups: 45 seconds

TRX Power Pull: 45 seconds (each arm)

TRX Body Saw: 45 seconds

TRX Squat Jumps: 45 seconds

TRX Atomic Push-up: 45 seconds

TRX Pull-ups: 45 seconds

Rest for two minutes and repeat the sequence two to three times through.

TRX Pull-ups
TRX Pull-ups will prepare you for upper-body focused challenges like scaling walls, getting across monkey bars or rings and climbing up gym class-style ropes.

TRX Power Pull
Adopting a ‘No Mudder left behind’ policy, these types of events aren’t just about getting yourself to the finish line, but also helping your teammates across it. This move will give you the back and rotational strength and power to pull your teammates up, over and across obstacles if they are struggling on their own.

TRX Body Saw
The TRX Body Saw is a good way to ready yourself for long military crawls -- through barrels or mud and underneath barbed and live wire -- which will require exceptional core strength and use of your forearms.

TRX Squat Jumps
Legs can be the first to go during one of these events. Performing sets of squat jumps will later enable you to manage the long miles of tough terrain (sometimes while carrying logs or even your teammates) and any steep ‘Death Marches’ up in elevation.

TRX Atomic Push-up
This extremely challenging exercise integrates chest and shoulder stability, core strength, power and high-intensity cardio training -- all of which we guarantee you will need to make it through any Tough Mudder-like event.
