Before pro cycling team RadioShack Nissan Trek stormed into first place in the team standings at the Tour de France, they made a pitstop at the TRX on Tour bus. Prior to the Tour of California in May, 14-time Tour veteran Jens Voigt and other RadioShack Nissan Trek riders went through a TRX Suspension Training and Rip Training experiential tutorial with Dan McDonogh, TRX’s Senior Manager of Group Training and Development, the 2012 IDEA Fitness Instructor of the Year.

Falling in line with many other top riders and teams in the pro cycling peloton RadioShack Nissan Trek has made the leap to a formal relationship with TRX in 2012. McDonogh’s past career as a pro mountain bike racer and legendary indoor cycling instructor helped him provide the RadioShack Nissan Trek pros with the moves he knew would help ease the aches and pains that come with the terrain of their hardman’s profession.

And Voigt, widely regarded as the hardest of the hardmen in the pro peloton, was quick on the uptake. “I’m convinced by the results,” said Voigt. “I believe it makes your body work more efficient.”

McDonogh took the team through a cycling specific mobility routine that focused on releasing tension in the lower-back and increasing flexibility in their hamstrings, hip-flexors and other lower body muscles.

The team was reluctant to try out the TRX at first because they were just days out from a major competition at the time. Always one for a challenge, Voigt stepped up and followed along with the charming McDonogh, and the rest of the riders quickly followed suit. “It helps your body sit better, smoother and straighter on a bike. Nowadays people have the knowledge of just how important that is.”
