TRX and Tunes

In addition to being in control of when and where you train when you use the TRX on your own, you’re also in control of the soundtrack. If you prefer just the sound of your breathing and effort, that’s awesome. Using this technique really helps some people to stay focused, present and in touch with every aspect of their movement and thought. But most of us find music to be among the greatest, most easily accessible motivational tools.

It’s not often that we have a large, uninterrupted chunk of time to listen to our favorite tunes. Even if you’re in your car and shuffling through favorites on your MP3 player, you still have to drive and pay attention to all of the pesky things that happen out on the open road. The rest of the time there’s always work to be done, chores and tasks to be completed and the incessant ringing of the phone.

Training gives us a stretch of time to soundtrack as we see fit every day. To make the most of it, search through your song library or think back on workouts where you were firing it up while you listened to tunes. Maybe Pantera’s Mouth for War gets you going. Maybe it’s MGMT. Maybe it’s Beethoven. Maybe it’s Rick Springfield. Just pick sounds that get you focused, present and moving.

Music gives us another bonus to look forward to when we train. It pumps us up and keeps us moving when it’s time to push hard on the TRX, and it can help us ease back into the world when we’re drawing to the end of a training session. It’s another tool in your training toolbox waiting to be used. So use it!
