The Trek Factory Racing team was recently in Sacramento California to acclimate for the Amgen Tour of California, America’s biggest professional cycling race. To help them prepare for the eight-day, 700-plus-mile race, TRX Training and Development Manager Dan McDonogh was on site, providing the team with expert TRX instruction.
McDonogh's visit allowed the team to use the TRX van to warm up before their training rides and also allowed him to follow up to the work that he did with the team in December at their Training Camp in Spain. McDonough, a former elite-level cyclist, designed a cycling-specific core and mobility program for each member, showing riders like Fabian Cancellara, Jens Voigt and Frank and Andy Schleck how TRX can help them become stronger, more durable and more capable of putting power to the pedals without leaking watts due to imbalances and asymmetries.
A fickle bunch, McDonogh was excited to see that the riders had all been using his programing since their last meeting, incorporating it as a pivotal part of their training and their post-ride recovery. And as an added bonus, McDonogh was able to go for a three-hour training ride with the team where he posted some solid stats: 63 miles with an average speed of 23.79 mph and an average of 262 watts.
