In a painful twist of fate, the shoulder injury that has sidelined TRX fighter and Marine veteran Brian Stann from stepping into the Octagon for a UFC on Fox bout, has opened the door for his fellow TRX athlete and Air Force veteran Brandon Vera. After Stann suffered his shoulder injury in training for the upcoming UFC fight, Vera got the call from UFC president Dana White to take Stann’s slot in the bout opposite Mauricio ‘Shogun’ Rua.
Vera had just two months to prepare to face down the formidable Shogun and heads into the fight ready to once again scrap for light heavyweight glory. And if all goes well, Vera has the unprecedented opportunity to benefit from the recent announcement from White that the most impressive winner from the pair of light heavyweight fights on Saturday will get a title shot with the winner of the the Jon ‘Bones’ Jones v. Dan Henderson fight at UFC 151. Former light heavyweight division champ Lyoto Machida v. Ryan Bader is the other contest in the running.
